The Great Gatsby Roaring Twenties Style

Everyone is buzzing about the highly anticipated remake of The Great Gatsby which is a film based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's critically acclaimed classic American novel. The movie comes to theatres on May 10th. As excited as we are to see this novel come to life on screen again, we cannot wait to see the costumes! The costumes were brought to life by director Catherine Martin and Miuccia Prada!

We are predicting a Roaring Twenties style revival. I've got a feeling formal and cocktail styling will get some flapper inspiration. For your cocktail parties this summer, think Daisy Buchanan. Revivals has picked a few dresses and accessories to get you ready for The Great Gatsby!

This first dress is by Haute Hippie! This dress is light gray and covered in matte silver sequins and beading.  The second is by Carmen Marc Valvo. This features a metallic fiber knit with silver beading. 1920s style is all about the sparkles and embellishments. Expect weight to be a good thing in these dresses. Carey Mulligan said upon trying on her wardrobe, "I felt very wealthy. It was so heavy and just felt so decadent and elegant." Just because these dresses are beaded does not mean you can skimp on the jewelry. The understated silhouettes allow a lot of accessorizing!

The above is a vintage beaded knit top by an unknown designer. The fringes of beading and sequins are perfect for your Roaring Twenties look! Pair with some brocade pants and a head scarf. Yes, they wore pants too! The flappers redefined the modern woman!

If beading and sparkles are not for you, perhaps you'd like something lighter and a bit more romantic. The first dress is by an unknown designer. The neckline and low waistband scream twenties fashion! The second is a sheer ivory dress by BCBG Max Azria. You are going to need a slip for this one but this is a great length  and the perfect color to pair with pearls. Notice the attention to detail on the sheer overlays on these dresses. These are very ornate without any need for beads.

The Art Deco style became very popular during the 1920s. Look for rich colors, bold geometric shapes and plenty of ornamentation. Revivals is always fully stocked with vintage and Art Deco pieces. When it comes to accessorizing your twenties look, think lavish!

We probably all head straight for pearls when we think of flapper inspiration. Long layered strands of pearls are a little stereotypical so we recommend going with whatever pearls work with your dress and your style. We also have some faux pearl cuffs! Reminds us of the cuffs Carey Mulligan is wearing on the cover of this month's Vogue!

And last but not least, you will need the perfect bag, our specialty! It's all about the minaudieres and cases! We love an ornate, embellished minaudiere for this look!
